How much time will the training take?
Each person's learning ability is different, therefore it is difficult to
give an exact time. However, after your first lesson we will be able to
give you a more definite timeframe.
What do I have to do before commencing my truck training?
For ACT applicants you must have completed an ACT Road Rule Knowledge ssessment.
On successful completion of your assessment you will be given a Learner's Permit
which you must carry with you while training.
How long does the Learner's Permit last?
2 years from the date the permit was issued.

What happens if I fail my licence assessment?
A second assessment will be arranged.
How much does a second assessment cost?
If you fail all sections of the assessment then a second full assessment is
required and full price paid. However, if only part of the assessment is
deemed 'not yet competent' a lesser fee will apply. This amount will be
discussed with you.
What are some of the main road rules that cause people to fail?
Some of the reasons for not reaching competency include:
Not positioning the truck correctly prior to turning, resulting in the truck crossing unbroken lines;
Hitting gutters and medium strips;
Not stopping correctly at Stop Signs;
Failing to indicate when leaving a roundabout;
Not obeying road signs; and
Speeding/not driving to the conditions, e.g. driving too fast/slow.
NOTE: Other contributing factors can be:
Losing concentration (mind not on the job);
Failing to use good observation/anticipation skills;
Being reactive rather than proactive; and
Not employing the 'System of Vehicle Control' to on-road situations (you will learn about the 'System of Vehicle Control'
during your Heavy Vehicle training).
Does DTP provide training and assessment if I provide my own vehicle?
Yes. However, the client's vehicle must be roadworthy and registered (note Federal Interstate registered vehicles cannot be
used for licence assessment). Please ensure cabin is clean, current registration label is visible, mirrors are not cracked
or broken, all electrical components are working i.e. horn, wipers, all lights, and that there is sufficient fuel for the
training and assessment.

No, however payment can be made either by cash or EFT to DTP's bank account. Payment details will be confirmed prior to
At what stage do you require payment?
For 1-day courses a $100 deposit is required 7 days prior to training commencing. This money will be refunded if you
need to cancel, providing a minimum of 48 hours notice is given prior to commencing training.
For all 'session' training and assessment payment is required on arrival when commencing your training.
Invoices can be provided to companies as and when required.
What type of vehicle do you provide?
Heavy Rigid (HR)
Medium Rigid (MR)
Light Rigid (LR)
Heavy Combination (HC)
Until further notice, DTP can only provide training and assessment
in a vehicle and trailer provided by the client or his/her company.
